Best Neighborhoods to Rent in Dallas, by Price and Commute

Rent in Dallas swings by part of town and by commute, so start with this week's prices. Pick an area to see what a 1 bedroom costs there after free rent, which places run the best deals, and how the drive or DART ride looks. We describe price, transit, and the buildings. We don't rate safety or say who an area is for.

Ask About My Area

Before you compare areas

These answers are the same for every area on this page, so the area pages skip them.

Can you tell me whether I'll be approved?

No. The property makes the final call, and we never promise approval. We look for places whose rules fit your income, credit and rental history. Most places ask for income of about three times the rent. Our low credit guide covers the rest.

Is a move-in special worth taking?

A special is worth the free days at the daily rate, and many have to be paid back if you move out early. The math is in our move-in specials guide.

How do I find out which school district an apartment is in?

School districts follow the street address, not the city or ZIP code, so check that exact address on the district's own map.

Can I pick my own electric company?

Across most of the area, yes, on Power to Choose. Garland and Denton run their own city power companies, and some suburban addresses get power from a co-op you can't shop around. Ask who serves the address first.

How much do tolls add?

Toll roads add a monthly cost that rent doesn't show. Run the trip through NTTA's toll calculator first, then weigh a Tollway address against one near the train.

Two numbers decide your lease. Get both.

Still choosing an area? Tell us your rent ceiling and where you work, and we'll suggest two or three areas and the places in them whose rules fit your situation.
