DeSoto Apartment Locator: Hampton Road Complexes and Three Bedroom Houses

As your DeSoto apartment locator, we checked 5 places this week, with prices from $1,028 a month after free rent. DeSoto, in southern Dallas County between I-35E and US-67, has many garden complexes from the 1970s and 1980s along Hampton Road, Pleasant Run, Belt Line and Wintergreen. Many Hampton Road properties renovated some units and left others original, so rents swing inside one complex. Ten Mile Creek winds through town. With no DART stops, plan on a car.

  • We ask whether each Hampton Road quote is renovated or original

  • Properties near Ten Mile Creek: look them up on the FEMA map before you pay an application fee
  • Three and four bedroom houses and homes built to rent searched next to the apartments

Getting Around DeSoto Without DART

DeSoto isn't a DART member city. With Cedar Hill and Duncanville outside DART too, a car is normal across this part of the county. Count its cost when you compare with towns that have rail. The nearest train is UNT Dallas station, the south end of the Blue Line, northeast of town.

I-35E is the fast route north to Downtown Dallas, roughly 15 miles away, and US-67 runs just west toward Oak Cliff and Midlothian. Both jam at rush hour. Which one you'll use comes down to your side of town. Wintergreen Road is the back way toward Cedar Hill and Lancaster when Hampton backs up.

Before you sign, drive from the property to work once at the hour you'd go.

Garden Apartments, Houses and Homes Built to Rent

Hampton Road and Pleasant Run have most of the apartments, in garden complexes from the 1970s and 1980s. Many updated only part of their units, so one complex quotes two prices. Get the quote tied to the unit you'll actually rent.

Belt Line Road and Wintergreen Road have older complexes with more flexible screening, where steady income can outweigh a score the newer buildings would turn away. Many of them put the whole building on one meter and bill every home the same flat utility charge. That's how a lower rent there can end up costing more than a metered unit down the road.

Newer buildings sit along South Polk Street and near I-35E, and houses and homes built to rent are a big share of the market, especially with three or four bedrooms. Ten Mile Creek runs through the city, so look up the property on the federal flood map before you apply.

Daily life in DeSoto

DeSoto keeps most of life near Hampton Road and Pleasant Run: a town center with an outdoor stage, a creek trail, busy ballfields and grocery stores a short drive apart.

DeSoto by car and creek trail

By our timing, a weekday 8am drive takes about 28 minutes to Downtown Dallas, 34 to the Medical District, 41 to DFW Airport and 51 to Legacy West. Inside the city, the Roy Orr Trail is a concrete path along the creek. It links neighborhoods with the Town Center, Murphy Hills Park and Ernie Roberts Park, and it turns a short drive into a walk.

Ballfields, zip lines and BMX

Ernie Roberts Park was DeSoto's first park built for every ability, with soft ground, swings, a zip line and musical play pieces. Grimes Park is the busy one, with a stadium, a soccer field, a BMX track, pavilions and a trail. Moseley Park and Les Zeiger Park are smaller stops for a quick walk, and the DeSoto Recreation Center covers workouts indoors when it's too hot outside.

Tacos, seafood boils and burgers

Restaurants in DeSoto sit in shopping centers along the main roads, not on a walkable strip, so plan to park in a lot. Taqueria Taxco is the taco stop closest to the middle of town, and Krab Kingz serves seafood boils by the bag. A couple of miles out, In-N-Out Burger and Mariscos La Marina handle burgers and Mexican seafood, and Braum's covers ice cream.

Town Center nights and football Fridays

DeSoto Town Center, beside City Hall and the library, hosts the city's outdoor events on its amphitheater stage. Arts festivals fill that stage, and the Hometown Holiday parade each December has ended at the Town Center. On fall Friday nights, Eagle Stadium hosts high school football.

What we tell renters looking in DeSoto

If you'd like to walk to the Town Center, look for a home near the Roy Orr Trail and walk the route before you sign. On event nights at the amphitheater, the Town Center lots fill, so leave early or park a block out. On football Fridays near Eagle Stadium, plan errands for earlier in the day.

DeSoto questions

Why do rents vary so much at one Hampton Road complex?

Many complexes renovated some units and not others, so the same floor plan can carry two prices. Get the quote tied to the specific unit before you pay a holding fee. In and around DeSoto, a typical one bedroom is $1,279, and the cheapest open one is $1,028 with the special counted.

Where are the four bedroom rentals in DeSoto?

Mostly in rental houses and homes built to rent, on the residential streets and in newer developments near I-35E. Apartments with four bedrooms are rare.

Is there any train service from DeSoto?

Not in town. The nearest station is UNT Dallas, at the south end of the Blue Line, a drive to the northeast.

Is flooding a concern near Ten Mile Creek?

For some properties, yes. Look up the lot on FEMA's flood map. If it's in a flood zone, price a flood policy, since standard renters insurance leaves floods out.

Is there an apartment locator near DeSoto?

Yes. We cover the garden complexes on Hampton, Pleasant Run, Belt Line and Wintergreen and the newer buildings on South Polk, and we'll sort renovated quotes from original ones.
