Ovilla Apartment Locator: Big Lots, Leased Homes and Nearby Complexes

Our Ovilla apartment locator team checked 5 places this week, and 3 of them have specials. Prices start at $1,219 a month after free rent. Ovilla is a small town of houses on big lots, split by the Ellis and Dallas county line just south of DeSoto. Zoning keeps lots large, so there are almost no apartment complexes. Rentals are leased homes, a few duplexes and some acreage. Most renters who start here end up looking in Red Oak, Glenn Heights or Cedar Hill too, and we include those from the start.

Areas we cover inside Ovilla

  • Ovilla Road CorridorOvilla Road (FM 664) is the main road through town, running east to Red Oak and I-35E and west to Westmoreland Road.

Houses on acreage line most of it, and the closest apartments are in Red Oak near the interstate.

  • North OvillaNorth Ovilla reaches toward the Dallas County line and DeSoto, where Cockrell Hill Road and Westmoreland Road head north.

It's houses on large lots and newer subdivisions, so a rental here almost always means a leased home.

  • South OvillaSouth Ovilla runs out toward rural Ellis County, with houses on big lots and very few apartments.

Red Oak and Midlothian are the nearest towns with apartment complexes.

  • Red Oak Creek vicinityRed Oak Creek winds through Ovilla and passes under FM 664 about four miles west of I-35E, with wooded land and floodplain along its banks.

Homes near it sit on bigger lots, and Red Oak's apartments are a few miles east on the same road.

  • FM 664 areaHeading east toward Red Oak, FM 664 passes newer subdivisions and shopping as it nears I-35E.

That's where most of the area's apartments and rental homes are. Closer to Ovilla it stays mostly houses on acreage.

Ovilla Has Few Apartments, So We Look Next Door Too

  • We list Red Oak, Glenn Heights and Cedar Hill complexes next to Ovilla's few rentals
  • We ask owners about barn, pasture and upkeep terms on acreage leases before you sign
  • We ask whether each home has well and septic or city water and sewer
  • We look up floodplain maps for homes near Red Oak Creek

Ovilla Commutes and the County Line Split

No DART or rail reaches Ovilla, and no freeway runs through it. FM 664, the town's main road, runs a few miles east to I-35E in Red Oak, and Cedar Hill is the way to US-67 on the northwest side. Time the whole trip from the house to your job, since it changes a lot with where you're going and when.

The county line crosses town. Which side a home sits on decides which county offices you use, for things like car registration and voting, so find out the county early.

Red Oak Creek winds through Ovilla with wooded land and floodplain along its banks. A standard renters policy covers your belongings, not flood damage, so check whether any home near the creek is in the floodplain.

Rentals in Ovilla: Houses, Not Apartments

Expect houses, a handful of duplexes from individual owners and some acreage rentals, a few with use of a barn or pasture. Those leases come with their own upkeep, utility and liability terms, so get all of it in writing before you sign.

Some homes run on well and septic rather than city systems, which changes how you set up service and can put some upkeep on you. Ask which a home uses.

Owners here decide each application on their own. If you have a credit or rental history problem, the apartment buildings in Red Oak and Cedar Hill post their screening rules and offer approvals with conditions.

Is my Ovilla address in Ellis County or Dallas County?

It could be either, since the line runs through town. The county decides which county offices you use, for things like car registration and voting, so check before you apply.

Can I keep horses at an Ovilla rental?

Some acreage rentals include a barn or pasture. Each owner sets the terms, so get upkeep, liability and insurance details in writing before you sign.
