Southeast Dallas Apartment Locator: A Few Garden Complexes Among the Warehouses

Our Southeast Dallas apartment locator team checked 8 places this week, and 1 of them have specials. Prices start at $835 a month after free rent. Southeast Dallas follows US-175 and I-45 out toward Seagoville, and much of it is industrial land and warehouses with pockets of homes in between. Rentals are thin: a few older garden complexes, plus houses for rent in Kleberg, Rylie and Urbandale. Pleasant Grove, just north, has far more apartments at similar prices, so most searches here widen to include it.

Areas we cover in and around Southeast Dallas

  • RylieRylie sits between I-20 and US-175 along an old rail line in far southeast Dallas.

It's mostly houses on larger lots, some still out in the country, with I-20 and Loop 12 for getting around.

  • KlebergKleberg lies on both sides of US-175 east of I-635, near the Balch Springs and Seagoville lines.

Expect houses on acreage, open land and a few newer subdivisions, but almost no apartment complexes.

  • Kleberg-RylieKleberg and Rylie are often grouped together as the far southeast corner of Dallas city limits, southeast of where LBJ meets US-175.

Rentals here are mostly houses, and US-175 gets you downtown in about 20 minutes.

  • Kleberg-Belt LineSouth Belt Line Road runs through the Kleberg area toward Seagoville, past houses on large lots and open land.

It connects north to Balch Springs and US-175.

  • UrbandaleUrbandale is an older neighborhood cut by Military Parkway, near Buckner Boulevard and I-30.

Midcentury houses fill most of it, with older apartment complexes along the main roads.

How We Search Southeast Dallas When Rentals Are Thin

  • Whether Pleasant Grove or Seagoville would give you more to choose from for the same commute
  • Older complexes that bill water and gas as one flat fee, priced into the comparison
  • Units facing the US-175 frontage roads, pointed out for steady truck noise
  • Rental houses listed next to the few apartments, since a house is often the better option here

DART, Highways, and Where Transit Drops Off

The area runs along US-175 (the C.F. Hawn Freeway) and I-45 from the edge of Pleasant Grove to the city limits near Seagoville. US-175 runs northwest to meet I-45 below Downtown, I-45 carries on toward Hutchins, and Loop 12 and I-20 cross the area.

Rail reaches only the north edge, where the Green Line's last two stops, Lake June and Buckner, ride to Deep Ellum and Downtown with no transfer. Farther south, most streets between the two freeways are too far from a station to skip the car.

The freeway frontage roads carry heavy truck traffic through the workday. A unit facing US-175 sounds very different from one facing a courtyard, so we ask which way it faces.

What You Can Rent, and When to Look Elsewhere

Pleasant Grove, just north, is usually the better place to start, with many more complexes at similar prices and plenty of three and four bedroom units. If the commute works, look there first.

Along the freeways, apartments are scarce, and the ones that exist are mostly older garden complexes. Houses for rent make up a big share of what's available. With so few properties, an individual landlord's judgment carries more weight than a corporate rulebook, which can help a renter with a credit issue.

Older complexes often run water and gas through a single building meter and charge a flat monthly fee. We ask how each building sets it up first. Low ground near the Trinity River and its creeks can flood in heavy rain, so we check the FEMA map for the address too.

Life on the southeast side of Dallas

Southeast Dallas is a highway and car area with a lot of open land between homes. Its standout is the trails and wetlands of the Trinity River forest on its west side.

Four highways and one rail stop

Almost every trip here starts on US-175, I-45, Loop 12 or I-20. Our 8am drive times run about 20 minutes to Downtown, 33 to the Medical District, 45 to DFW Airport and 51 to Legacy West. For rail, Lake June Station on the Green Line sits on the north side of the area, with trains through Fair Park and Deep Ellum into downtown.

Forest trails and wetland boardwalks

The Trinity River Audubon Center, on Loop 12 in the Great Trinity Forest, has trails and boardwalks with bird blinds over wetlands, woods and prairie. Pets aren't allowed on its trails, so leave the dog at home, and check online about tickets before you go. The Trinity Forest Trail winds through the woods close by, and Joppa Preserve is another patch of protected woods. William Blair Jr. Park and Pemberton Hill Park are the big city parks.

Southern plates and fried catfish

Tips we give renters in Southeast Dallas

Time the drive at your work hour: our numbers put Downtown at about 15 minutes with no traffic and 20 at 8am, and the gap grows the farther you go. Low ground by the Trinity River and its creeks can flood in heavy rain, so check the FEMA map before you apply. Homes close to I-45 or US-175 pick up highway noise, so visit one in the evening to hear it.

Southeast Dallas questions

Are there many apartments in Southeast Dallas?

Not many. The freeway corridor is mostly warehouses with homes scattered between, so rentals are a few older garden complexes and houses. Pleasant Grove, next door, has far more. At the few complexes we track, a typical one bedroom runs $1,005, and the cheapest open one is $835.

Should I look in Pleasant Grove instead?

Often, yes. It's just north, with more complexes at about the same prices and more three and four bedroom units. Seagoville can add choices too if the drive works for you.

How loud is truck traffic along US-175?

Steady through business hours, and you can hear it at night near the frontage roads. Choose a unit facing a courtyard or side street if noise bothers you.

Is there a train near Southeast Dallas?

Only at the north edge, where the Green Line ends at Buckner station with Lake June one stop before it. Farther south, homes sit too far from a station to go without a car.

Is there an apartment locator for Southeast Dallas?

Yes, that's us. We'll show you the few complexes and houses for rent here alongside nearby Pleasant Grove options, so you can compare them before you apply anywhere.
