Terrell Apartment Locator: Older Garden Homes and Duplexes on I-20
As your Terrell apartment locator, we check the prices here every week. Terrell is one of Kaufman County's cheaper places to rent, about 30 miles east of Dallas on I-20 and US-80. Most apartments are older garden communities across the city core, and rent houses and duplexes are common. Screening is looser than you'd expect this far out, mostly thanks to the older buildings and individual owners. Some core buildings bill utilities through one meter.

Find your best deal in Terrell
Pick what you want. We compare each deal with buildings like it here: same size, about the same age.
Nothing here matches all of that this week. Tell us what you want and we'll look for buildings that fit.
Why our prices are lower than what the community quotes
When a community gives free rent, we spread it over the whole lease and show what you pay a month on average. The community quotes the full rent, and many take the free rent off your first months. You pay the same total either way. Our way lets you compare one deal with another. Fees and the deposit are extra.

Older houses fill the streets around it, along with a few small apartment buildings.

Travel stops, hotels and warehouses fill the exits, and newer apartment complexes sit nearby.
US-80 CorridorUS-80 runs through the middle of Terrell as Moore Avenue, west to Forney and Mesquite and east to Wills Point.
Older strip retail lines it, with neighborhoods behind it on both sides.

Terrell Apartments Among Kaufman County's Lower Rents
- Flat utility charges at core buildings on one meter, asked about before you compare rents
- Older buildings and owners that may take a credit problem with a bigger deposit, asked about for you
- Three bedroom homes searched early, since they lease fast here
I-20, US-80 and getting around without transit
I-20 and US-80 both run west toward Dallas, roughly 30 miles, and the 7am trip slows hard through Forney and Mesquite. STAR Transit's booked rides are the only transit, so plan on driving.
The Shops at Terrell, an outlet center off I-20, cover some shopping, with more in Forney and Mesquite. Most of the city is on Oncor, where you shop for a plan, but co-ops serve parts of Kaufman County, including some Terrell addresses.
Older garden communities, duplexes and looser screening
Older garden communities across the city core hold most of the apartments, with few newer buildings. Rent houses and duplexes make up a big share, and their owners are the most willing to work with a rough record. Three bedroom homes lease quickly.
Regular apartments here often take a credit problem with a bigger deposit. Older core buildings tend to share one electric or water meter and add a set charge, so we ask what it covers.
Properties with income limits or rent help are the exception: program rules often make them stricter about past rental debt, not looser.

What we tell renters in Terrell
Jubilee weekend in late April brings carnival traffic around Ben Gill Park, so skip a move on those days if you'll live nearby. Test the 8am drive on I-20 before you sign: our numbers show rush hour adding about 13 minutes to the downtown drive. The flight school museum opens by appointment outside its regular hours, so call ahead for a Sunday or Tuesday visit.
Terrell questions
How do older Terrell buildings bill utilities?
Often on a shared meter, with a fixed utility charge added to the rent. Units with their own meters put the accounts in your name. Compare the two setups on total cost, not rent.
Where is screening easiest in Terrell?
At the older core buildings and with individual owners, more than at big management companies. A larger deposit is the usual path, and income still decides.
Is my Terrell address on Oncor?
Most of the city is, so you shop on Power to Choose. Some addresses are on a co-op with no choice. We check who supplies the unit.
What's the rush hour drive from Terrell to Dallas?
About 30 miles, and the westbound stretch through Forney and Mesquite slows down early. Try it from the address you like.
Where do I find a three bedroom in Terrell?
Across the city core, in garden communities, rent houses and duplexes. They lease faster than one bedrooms, so start early. In Forney, the closest bigger market, a typical one bedroom runs about $1,264 right now.
Will Terrell apartments approve bad credit?
Often, with a bigger deposit. Pay stubs matter more than the score. Our low credit guide lists the routes.
Is my address in Terrell ISD?
Terrell ISD serves the city. If schools matter, we confirm the street address with the district.
Is there an apartment locator near Terrell?
Yes. In Terrell, we ask which core buildings bill a flat utility charge, which owners will take a credit problem with a deposit, and where the three bedrooms are. We can add Forney or Kaufman too.
Near Terrell
Forney sits west on US-80 toward Dallas, Royse City lies north off I-30, and Lavon is farther north, at the south end of Lavon Lake.
