Knox-Henderson Dallas Apartment Locator: Two Streets, One Bridge Over US-75

Free help from your Knox-Henderson Dallas apartment locator: we checked 21 places this week, from $1,155 a month after free rent. Knox Street and Henderson Avenue are two short shopping streets joined by a bridge over Central Expressway, with the Katy Trail touching the Knox end. Apartments here are mostly smaller midrises plus older walkups behind Henderson, and the two sides rent differently. Free rent deals tend to be small, so the fees usually decide which building costs less.

Knox-Henderson Apartments on Two Sides of One Bridge

  • Knox and Henderson priced as two separate markets, since rents shift once you cross the bridge
  • Fees compared line by line in smaller buildings, where free rent rarely decides it
  • Small building questions to ask: package room overflow, guest parking and how fast repairs get done
  • Side street homes off Henderson suggested when late weekend bar noise is a dealbreaker

Getting Around Both Sides of US-75

US-75 splits the neighborhood down the middle. Knox Street runs west toward Highland Park and Henderson Avenue east toward Lower Greenville, and the bridge between them is walkable but loud. Downtown is a quick run down Central outside rush hour, and the same freeway heads north to Richardson and Plano.

Rail is a short drive either way: SMU/Mockingbird Station to the north and Cityplace/Uptown to the south, both on the Red, Orange and Blue lines. Few addresses here are an easy walk to either, though some renters ride the Katy Trail north to catch the train at Mockingbird.

Shoppers and diners fill the curb on Knox and Henderson most evenings and weekends. Resident garages aren't affected, but guest parking is, so ask where visitors leave a car.

Small midrises and what changes between buildings

Buildings here run smaller than Uptown's. The newer ones near the trail and the Knox shops have newer kitchens and finishes, with prices to match. The side streets behind Henderson hold older walkups, duplexes and fourplexes.

A small building gives you fewer services for a lower amenity fee. Without package lockers, deliveries pile up in a room by the office, and guest spaces are scarce. The office may keep set hours instead of having staff all day, which can slow repairs. Ask how a routine repair gets handled and how long it usually takes (a leaky faucet is a fair test).

Free rent here tends to be a few weeks at most, so parking, trash and amenity fees usually decide it. Put both buildings' totals side by side in our true monthly cost calculator.

Life between Knox Street and Henderson Avenue

Knox-Henderson is two short shopping streets joined by a bridge over US-75. You get the Katy Trail on one end, a row of bars on the other, and quick drives to most of central Dallas.

Moving around the Knox and Henderson blocks

Knox Street and Henderson Avenue are each walkable for about half a mile, with shops and patios right on the sidewalk. Crossing between them means the bridge over US-75, which is fine on foot but loud. In our drive times, Downtown is about 13 to 14 minutes away, the Medical District about 16, and DFW Airport about 32. Mockingbird Station sits where the Katy Trail ends, so you can bike the trail north to catch the Red, Orange or Blue Line there.

The Katy Trail at your door

The Katy Trail is the big draw on the Knox side. It's a 12 foot wide concrete path that runs about 3.5 miles from Victory Park up to Mockingbird Station. The entrance at Knox Street and Abbott Avenue is a few blocks from most Knox homes. Runners, walkers and cyclists use it from sunrise on. South on the trail you reach Uptown in minutes, and north you pass behind Highland Park toward SMU.

Knox patios and Henderson bars

The two halves feel different after dark. Knox Street leans toward sit down dinners, brunch crowds and shopping, and it quiets down early on weeknights. Henderson Avenue east of US-75 has more bars and music in older storefronts, and it stays busy late on Fridays and Saturdays. Lower Greenville is a short drive east if you want more choices. Expect valet stands and full lots on both streets on weekend nights.

Parades, games and big days nearby

Each March, the Dallas St. Patrick's Parade runs down Greenville Avenue north of Mockingbird, ending at SMU Boulevard. On fall Saturdays, SMU football plays at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, about 2 miles north. Mavericks and Stars games happen at the south end of the Katy Trail, at the American Airlines Center, so a bike ride to tipoff or puck drop works.

What we tell renters here

On the Henderson side, a unit facing the avenue hears bar crowds late on weekends, and a unit on a side street is quieter. On St. Patrick's Parade day, streets near Greenville Avenue close and parking disappears.

Some do, though the offers tend to be smaller than in parts of Dallas with lots of new construction. Our move-in specials guide shows how to weigh one against a building's fees.
