Areas we cover inside Flower Mound

  • Lakeside DFWLakeside DFW is a newer district on FM-2499 at the south end of Flower Mound, close to Grapevine Lake's north shore.

Offices, restaurants and newer apartment buildings share it, and SH-121 and DFW Airport are minutes south.

  • Long Prairie CorridorLong Prairie Road is the busiest street in Flower Mound, and it carries FM-2499 traffic up to Highland Village.

Most of the town's grocery stores and shopping centers sit along it, and it backs up at rush hour near Cross Timbers.

  • Morriss Road CorridorMorriss Road runs north and south, west of Long Prairie, through established subdivisions from the 1980s and 1990s.

Parks and schools line it, and a rental here usually means a house.

  • FM-2499 CorridorSouth of Flower Mound, FM-2499 connects into Grapevine and SH-121, so it's the town's quickest route to the airport and the Dallas side.

Near the south end you'll find newer apartments, retail and Lakeside DFW.

  • FM-1171 CorridorFM-1171, Cross Timbers Road, is the main east and west road.

It goes east to I-35E in Lewisville and west toward Argyle and US-377. Shopping centers and the town's handful of apartment complexes cluster at its intersections with Long Prairie and Morriss.

  • WellingtonWellington is Flower Mound's largest subdivision, built out in phases with its own pools, trails and greenbelts.

It's all houses, so renting here means a house lease with homeowners association rules attached.

  • Parker SquareParker Square is a small town center at Long Prairie Road and Flower Mound Road, with shops, offices, a gazebo and a monthly farmers market.

Townhomes and houses sit around it, and you can walk to a few restaurants.

  • Twin CovesTwin Coves Park sits on the Flower Mound side of Grapevine Lake, with cabins, RV sites, a boat ramp and trails on Army Corps land.

The streets near it are mostly larger houses on big lots near the lake, a ways from the main shopping roads.

Flower Mound Apartments in Short Supply by Grapevine Lake

  • Oncor or CoServ to check for each address before you count on shopping for a rate
  • Long Prairie and Morriss Road buildings sorted by how they handle a low score or thin credit
  • Lewisville ISD and the four smaller district slices, to check by street, since the lines split subdivisions

Roads, Power and School Lines

FM-2499 is the main north and south road, down to SH-121 and I-635, and FM-1171 runs east and west. Both back up at rush hour, worst at the FM-2499 and SH-121 interchange. DFW Airport is about 22 minutes away by our drive times. There's no rail, so you'll drive for every errand.

Power splits by address: some homes are on Oncor and can compare plans, and others are on CoServ (Denton County Electric Cooperative), a co-op that sells its own power, so there's no plan to shop. Check a recent bill for the unit.

Lewisville ISD serves most of the town, with parts in Argyle, Denton, Northwest and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, and the line runs through the middle of some subdivisions.

Three Kinds of Rentals in Flower Mound

For a town this size, Flower Mound has built few apartments. The newer ones along FM-2499 and at Lakeside DFW use standard income and credit rules and sometimes give specials on longer leases.

Long Prairie and Morriss Road hold the older garden communities. Many are renovated and use written screening rules, and plenty will approve with conditions. The oldest on Long Prairie give the most room for a mark on your record.

Then there are houses and townhomes leased by owners, a big share of what's out there. Owners make their own call on credit, though HOA rules on parking, pets and lawns are common, and the renter has to follow them.

Living in Flower Mound

Flower Mound is houses, trees and lake trails, with dinner and shopping in a few planned centers in place of one main street. Grapevine Lake sits along its south edge.

Getting around Flower Mound

DFW Airport is about 22 minutes south at the morning rush, by our numbers, with Legacy West about 31 and Downtown Dallas about 42. To get to the airport without a car, drive a few minutes south to TEXRail's Grapevine/Main Street station. Trains go to DFW Airport's Terminal B one way and downtown Fort Worth the other.

Prairie, lake and dirt trails

The Flower Mound itself, the hill the town is named for, is a 12.5 acre patch of native Blackland Prairie and a state historic site. It's fenced, and the group that looks after it opens it for guided wildflower walks. On Grapevine Lake, the Northshore Trail runs about 22 miles of narrow dirt trail from Rockledge Park to Twin Coves Park, in loops of about 3 miles each.

Lakeside and Parker Square

Lakeside DFW, on FM-2499 near the lake, has some of the town's busiest restaurants, a wine bar, and Moviehouse and Eatery, the only movie theater in Flower Mound. Its Lakeside Music Series puts live music outside on Friday nights much of the year. Parker Square, at Long Prairie and Flower Mound Road, is the smaller spot for a walk to dinner.

Groceries and big errands

Market Street, at FM-1171 and FM-2499 on Long Prairie Road, is the big grocery stop in the middle of town. H-E-B bought 22.8 acres at US-377 and FM-1171, in the Furst Ranch area on the west side. It plans a store there, but no build date is set yet.

Wine weekends and holiday lights

GrapeFest takes over Grapevine's Historic Main Street each September and closes the street to cars for four days. TEXRail's station sits next to the festival's south gate. Back in town, Lakeside DFW puts up a 30 foot Christmas tree each holiday season, with carriage rides and live music.

What we tell Flower Mound renters

On GrapeFest weekend, Grapevine's lots fill, so take TEXRail or the free shuttle from the Grapevine Convention Center. If you'll ride the Northshore Trail often, a home near the south end of town saves a drive across FM-2499 traffic. Some trailheads on the lake charge a small parking fee.

Flower Mound questions

Is my Flower Mound home on Oncor or a co-op?

Either one, by street. Oncor homes can pick a retail plan. CoServ homes buy power from the co-op, so there's no plan to shop. Look at a bill for the property.

Which school district is my Flower Mound rental in?

Mostly Lewisville ISD, with slices in Argyle, Denton, Northwest and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Lines cut through some subdivisions, so only the street address settles it.

How slow does FM-2499 get?

Very, at both rush hours, especially at the SH-121 interchange. With no rail option, time the trip south at your real hours before you choose.

Is Lakeside DFW worth the higher rent?

If you'll use it. It's one of the few places in town where errands and dinner are walkable. Compare Lakeside quotes with fees included, not the advertised rent. For comparison, Flower Mound one bedrooms run about $1,499 right now.

Where are the hiking and mountain biking trails?

The Northshore Trail follows Grapevine Lake's north shore through Twin Coves Park and Murrell Park. It's a real mountain bike trail, a short drive from most of town.

Where in Flower Mound is screening most flexible?

The older buildings on Long Prairie, which often approve with conditions, such as a bigger deposit, when there's a mark on your file. Income still carries the most weight.

Do HOA rules apply to renters in Flower Mound?

Yes. Parking, pet types and sizes, and lawn care rules apply to tenants as much as owners, so ask for them before you apply.

Which Flower Mound rentals take pets?

Most newer buildings along FM-2499 and at Lakeside DFW, with their own breed and weight limits. Long Prairie and Morriss Road communities vary, and houses depend on the owner and the HOA.

Is there an apartment locator near Flower Mound?

Yes. Flower Mound has few rentals, so we watch all three kinds: the FM-2499 and Lakeside DFW buildings, the Long Prairie garden communities and homes leased by owners in subdivisions like Wellington. We send the ones that fit your budget. Check the power company and school district for each address before you sign.
