White Rock Lake Dallas Apartment Locator: East Shore Gardens Off Garland and Ferguson
As your White Rock Lake Dallas apartment locator, we checked 9 places this week, with prices from $1,164 a month after free rent. The east shore of White Rock Lake trades Lakewood's address for more room. Older garden complexes along Garland Road and Ferguson Road have bigger floor plans for the money, and a few newer buildings sit toward Gaston. The 9.3 mile lake loop is the draw. The catch is the drive, since Downtown runs close to half an hour at 8am, and Arboretum weekends crowd Garland Road.

Renting a house or an apartment in White Rock Lake / Casa Linda?
A 2 bedroom house here runs about $198 a month more than a 2 bedroom apartment after free rent.
With a house you usually get a yard, more room and no shared walls. You often pay water, trash and yard care yourself, and deposits can run higher.
With an apartment you pay community fees each month for things like parking, trash and amenities. Free rent usually needs a lease of 12 months or more, and the staff on site handles repairs.

Why our prices are lower than what the community quotes
When a community gives free rent, we spread it over the whole lease and show what you pay a month on average. The community quotes the full rent, and many take the free rent off your first months. You pay the same total either way. Our way lets you compare one deal with another. Fees and the deposit are extra.

White Rock Apartments With More Room per Dollar
- Addresses near Dixon Branch looked up on the flood map before you sign
- Water billing asked about, with last year's average for your floor plan if the building splits the bill
- Complexes on Ferguson and the far end of Garland Road that have taken a closer look at a thin or bruised credit file
- The real walk or ride from each building to the lake trail, not a neighborhood guess
Transit, Commutes, and Trail Connections
The area hugs the east shore of the lake, with Garland Road as the main strip and Ferguson Road behind it. Casa Linda Plaza, at Garland and Buckner Boulevard, is the center of things. Ferguson leads south to I-30, and Gaston and East Grand carry traffic west toward Deep Ellum and Downtown when the freeway backs up.
White Rock Station on the Blue Line sits on Northwest Highway near the lake's north end, a drive from most east shore buildings. Bike commuters can ride the lake loop to the Santa Fe Trail and into Deep Ellum, which works best from a building near the water.
Arboretum shows each spring and fall fill Garland Road on weekends, and trail parking can spill into apartment lots on nice days. Gated resident parking stays clear, but guests and the turn onto Garland feel it.
What You'll Find on Garland and Ferguson
Across Casa Linda, Lochwood and the Garland Road corridor, most rentals are older garden complexes, many from the 1970s and 1980s on Ferguson, with a few newer buildings near Gaston. You get more square feet per dollar than in similar buildings west of Central. That's the reason to look here if you don't need a Lakewood or Uptown address.
Screening splits along the same line. The bigger complexes and the newer buildings use standard credit rules. Managers on Ferguson and the eastern end of Garland make more of their own calls, so a low score doesn't automatically end the conversation.
Two things we ask everywhere. Is the unit near Dixon Branch, the creek that drains toward the lake, and inside a mapped flood zone? And does the building meter water per unit or split one bill among everyone by a formula? If it splits the bill, we get last year's average for the floor plan and add it to the rent.
Living on the east shore of White Rock Lake
Life here turns on the lake. Mornings start on the loop trail, weekends fill up at the Arboretum, and the shops at Garland Road and Buckner handle the rest.

Driving, riding and biking from the lake
This is a drive first part of Dallas, with long blocks and few sidewalks along Garland Road and Ferguson Road. In our drive times, Downtown runs about 27 minutes with no traffic and 29 at 8 a.m., Legacy West about 37 to 39, and DFW Airport about 43 to 45. If you live near the lake, you can ride the loop trail to the Santa Fe Trail and bike into Deep Ellum instead. Gaston Avenue and East Grand Avenue are the free surface routes west when I-30 backs up.

White Rock Lake
The big reason to pick this side of town: a 9.3 mile loop for walking, running and biking, with water views most of the way.
- Loop runs
- Sunset walks
- Paddling
The lake, the hills and the dog park
White Rock Lake Park wraps around the water with spots you'll soon know well. Winfrey Point and Flagpole Hill sit on the east side, with wide lawns, picnic tables and wide sunset views over the city skyline. For dogs, Mockingbird Point is a fenced off leash park on the northwest shore near Mockingbird Lane. Sailboats, paddleboards and rowing crews are on the water most weekends when the wind is right.
Flagpole Hill
A grassy hill on the east side with wide lawns and a playground; spring and fall evenings bring a crowd for the sunset.
- Picnics
- Sunset views
Winfrey Point
Lawns above the east shore with a view back to the city skyline; the small lot fills on nice weekends, so come early.
- Skyline views
- Lake picnics
Low key nights on Garland Road
Nightlife here is quiet compared with Lower Greenville or Deep Ellum. Most dinners happen at the restaurants in and around Casa Linda Plaza and along Garland Road, with patios that face parking lots more than streets. Lakewood's small strip at Abrams Road and Gaston Avenue is a 10 minute drive west for a bigger choice of bars and late dinners. For a loud night out, plan to drive or take a rideshare into Lower Greenville.
Casa Linda Plaza
The 1940s center at Garland Road and Buckner is the everyday stop for groceries, hardware and a quick dinner close to home.
- Weekly errands
- Quick dinners
Where the weekly run happens
Casa Linda Plaza, on three corners of Garland Road and Buckner Boulevard, is still the main errand stop for this side of the lake. It has a grocery, a hardware store and quick places to eat. A full size Whole Foods sits about 10 minutes west in Lakewood, on Abrams Road. Big box runs usually mean a drive up to Northwest Highway or out to I-30.
Gardens, races and a full lake calendar
The Dallas Arboretum on Garland Road runs Dallas Blooms each spring and Autumn at the Arboretum each fall, with a pumpkin village in the fall show. In December, the Dallas Marathon loops the lake. The Bath House Cultural Center on the east shore hosts art shows and small plays most of the year.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Big seasonal shows in spring and fall on Garland Road; a weekday visit skips most of the traffic and the lines.
- Spring flowers
- Fall pumpkins
- Garden walks
What we tell renters near the lake
On marathon Sunday in December, roads around the lake close for most of the morning, so plan errands for Saturday. Sunset crowds at Winfrey Point and Flagpole Hill fill the small lots on spring and fall evenings. Fall weekends at the Arboretum add pumpkin village traffic on top of the usual Garland Road backups.
White Rock Lake / Casa Linda questions
How far are east shore apartments from the lake trail?
That comes down to the building. Some on Garland Road sit right by a trailhead, and ones near Casa Linda Plaza are a longer walk. Walk or ride the route once from the building you like.
Is flooding a risk near Dixon Branch?
For some properties, yes. A few near the creek sit in or close to a mapped flood zone, and renters insurance alone won't cover flood losses. We check the address on the floodplain map before you sign.
How bad does Arboretum traffic get?
Heavy on spring and fall weekends, when the big garden shows run. Buildings that enter off Garland Road feel it most, and guests may have trouble finding a space.
Can I bike to Downtown from here?
From a building near the water, yes. The lake loop meets the Santa Fe Trail, which runs into Deep Ellum, and Downtown is a short ride past it.
Is there an apartment locator for White Rock Lake and Casa Linda?
Yes, that's us. We cover Casa Linda, Lochwood and the Garland and Ferguson corridors, and we'll tell you which complexes split the water bill and which sit close to Dixon Branch. East of the lake right now, a typical one bedroom runs $1,239, and the cheapest open one, free rent averaged in, is $1,164.
