Why our prices are lower than what the community quotes
When a community gives free rent, we spread it over the whole lease and show what you pay a month on average. The community quotes the full rent, and many take the free rent off your first months. You pay the same total either way. Our way lets you compare one deal with another. Fees and the deposit are extra.

Areas we cover inside Grand Prairie
SH-161 CorridorSH-161, the western leg of the Bush Turnpike, runs the length of Grand Prairie from the Irving line down to I-20.
Newer apartment communities cluster along it near I-30 and Epic Central, and the toll lanes make DFW Airport and Las Colinas quick.
Carrier ParkwayCarrier Parkway runs north and south through central and south Grand Prairie, from near I-30 down past I-20.
Garden complexes from the 1980s through the 2000s line it with shopping centers, and Pioneer Parkway crosses it midway.
Robinson RoadRobinson Road, once part of Belt Line, runs north and south in south Grand Prairie a block east of SH-161 and meets I-20.
It's mostly houses with some commercial lots, and the toll road next door is the fast way north.
Camp WisdomCamp Wisdom Road crosses south Grand Prairie below I-20, heading west toward Joe Pool Lake and east into Dallas.
Rentals off it are mostly newer houses and garden apartments.
Joe Pool LakeGrand Prairie holds a big share of Joe Pool Lake's shoreline, with Lynn Creek Park and Loyd Park offering boat ramps, camping and trails.
Lake Ridge Parkway ties the lakeside subdivisions together, and rentals there are mostly houses.
Downtown Grand PrairieThe old downtown lines Main Street (SH-180), a grid of storefronts, houses and small apartment buildings.
It's the oldest part of town, and I-30 is a mile or so north.
Pioneer ParkwayPioneer Parkway (SH-303) runs east and west across Grand Prairie toward Arlington.
It's lined with older shopping centers and garden apartments from the 1970s and 1980s. Asia Times Square sits on it at Great Southwest Parkway.
Asia Times SquareAsia Times Square is the large Asian shopping and dining center on Pioneer Parkway at Great Southwest Parkway.
It was built in a former Walmart near the Arlington line. Older apartments and houses fill the surrounding blocks, and SH-360 is a short drive west.

Grand Prairie Apartments at Every Price Between Two Cities
- School district and county to check for the exact address, since six districts and several counties split the city
- Flat utility charges at older central buildings on one meter, to add in before you compare rents
- SH-161 tolls counted when Las Colinas or Irving is the daily drive
Four Big Roads, a Toll Road and No DART
Four big roads cross the city: I-30 through the north half and I-20 through the south run east and west, and SH-360 and SH-161 run north and south. SH-161 is a toll road and the quickest way to Las Colinas and Irving. Put a daily round trip into NTTA's toll calculator before you choose an address that leans on it.
Grand Prairie isn't a DART member and runs only a limited transit service of its own, so a car is part of the budget. The closest train is the TRE at CentrePort, just past the north edge, and DART's Orange Line runs through Irving and Las Colinas.
The city is big, and each end rents differently: the Pioneer Parkway area around Asia Times Square, the SH-161 edge, and the quieter Joe Pool Lake side to the south. A home by Lone Star Park and one by Loyd Park are very different drives to the same job (time both if you can).
Older central garden communities and the SH-161 newcomers
The newer buildings along SH-161 and at the growing north and south ends charge the usual community fees: amenities, reserved parking and valet trash. They screen with set rules and a higher bar.
Carrier Parkway and Pioneer Parkway, in the middle and east side of the city, hold a lot of the older garden communities. They're large complexes with surface parking and big old trees, and many ask for less income than the SH-161 buildings. Plenty have three bedroom plans.
Many of those older central and east side buildings share one meter for water, gas and sometimes electricity. They charge each home a set amount, which can make a lower rent cost more in the end.
What life in Grand Prairie looks like

Grand Prairie behind the wheel
From the middle of the city at 8am, it's about 21 minutes to DFW Airport by our count. Downtown Dallas is 23, the Medical District 25 and Legacy West 36. North and south trips feel different: from the Lone Star Park end, I-30 and SH-360 are minutes away, and from the lake end, I-20 is the main road out.

Lone Star Park runs horse racing in the north end, and the Texas Trust CU Theatre next door books concerts and comedy. AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field in Arlington are a short drive west.

What we tell Grand Prairie renters
Cowboys home games back up I-30 and SH-360 near AT&T Stadium, which hits the north end of the city on game days. Traders Village weekends add traffic on Mayfield Road near IKEA, so do big furniture runs on a weekday. If you want lake days, a home on the south end puts Lynn Creek and Loyd Park a few minutes away.
Grand Prairie questions
Which of Grand Prairie's school districts covers my street?
Grand Prairie ISD serves most of the city. Arlington, Mansfield, Cedar Hill, Irving and Midlothian ISD each take a part. The ZIP code won't tell you, so check the address with the district.
Is my Grand Prairie address in Dallas, Tarrant or Ellis County?
That comes down to the street, and each county taxes differently. Look the address up on the appraisal district site instead of going by the neighborhood.
How much will the SH-161 toll road add for a Las Colinas commute?
Plug your trips into NTTA's toll calculator. A round trip every workday adds up, so put the monthly total next to the rent.
Does DART run in Grand Prairie?
No. The city runs a limited service of its own, but most addresses need a car. For the Orange Line, Irving and Las Colinas are just north.
Carrier Parkway or SH-161: which suits me?
Carrier Parkway's older garden communities ask for less income. The SH-161 buildings cost more, add fees and screen tighter. Compare full monthly cost against your income and credit. Citywide, one bedrooms here run about $1,317, roughly between the two.
Where does Grand Prairie work with bad credit?
Along Carrier Parkway and Pioneer Parkway, in the older garden communities. Income still decides most applications. Our low credit guide covers the rest.
What is the south end of Grand Prairie like for renters?
Mostly rental houses and communities of houses built to rent near Joe Pool Lake and Loyd Park, with I-20 as the main road. You give up nearby shopping for the lake and trails.
Is there an apartment locator near Grand Prairie?
Yes. Grand Prairie is big, so we work it in pieces: the SH-161 corridor, Pioneer Parkway, Carrier Parkway, Camp Wisdom and Joe Pool Lake. Check the district and county for each address before you sign.
Near Grand Prairie
Irving sits just north up SH-161, South Irving lies across the Trinity's West Fork, and Las Colinas is a short toll drive north.
