# Red Oak Apartment Locator: Highway Apartments and Streets Built to Rent

Red Oak lines I-35E in Ellis County between Glenn Heights and Waxahachie. Newer apartments sit near the freeway exits, and a middle tier of garden complexes covers a range of floor plans. A large share of rentals are houses, many in communities built to rent. Red Oak Creek runs through town, so we check the flood map for any home near it.

## Red Oak rents this week

We check these numbers every week. Updated November 6, 2026. Where a place has a firm move-in special, its rent counts the free rent spread evenly over the lease. Rents are before fees. 6 communities in and within 6.5 miles of Red Oak had homes available; 4 listed a move-in special. Method: https://apartmentlocatordallas.com/rent-data-methodology/

Our read this week: Free rent runs bigger at newer buildings: about 4 weeks, compared with 2 at middle age ones. 2 buildings here are brand new or still opening, and 2 of them have a move-in special right now. New buildings have to fill up fast, so they usually give the biggest deals.

## Areas we cover inside Red Oak

- **I-35E Corridor**: I-35E runs through Red Oak, and most of the city's apartments and newer shopping cluster by the exits. It's the way north to Dallas, and apartments facing the interstate hear it.
- **Ovilla Road**: Ovilla Road (FM 664) runs west from I-35E toward Ovilla, with subdivisions and shopping along it. Rentals are mostly houses, and the road gets busy at commute hours.
- **Red Oak Creek Vicinity**: Red Oak Creek runs south through the city, with greenbelt along parts of its banks. Homes near the creek sit in older and newer subdivisions, and some lots back up to the floodplain.
- **South Red Oak**: South of FM 664 the city runs toward Waxahachie with newer subdivisions and open land. Most rentals are houses, and I-35E is the main road in either direction.
- **East Red Oak**: East of I-35E, Red Oak is older neighborhoods and rural roads toward the Ferris side. Rentals are houses, often on bigger lots, and the interstate is a short drive back west.

## Red Oak Apartments and Streets of Rental Houses Off I-35E

- The 8am drive up I-35E from your door, which runs slower than the miles suggest
- Homes near Red Oak Creek looked up on the FEMA flood map
- Houses in communities built to rent when you need three bedrooms or a garage
- Older housing where a landlord, not a policy, reviews a messy credit history

## I-35E Commute and Getting Around Red Oak

I-35E is the way in and out, a free freeway straight north into Dallas about 20 miles away. A wreck on it leaves few good detours, so test the trip at your real commute hour before you sign. Westbound, FM 664 carries neighborhood traffic toward Ovilla.

There's no DART or other rail here, so a car handles every commute and errand. Waxahachie's courthouse square is about 15 minutes south, and Cedar Hill State Park is a short drive northwest.

Red Oak Creek runs through the city with green space along parts of it, and some lots back up to its floodplain. A renters policy covers your belongings. Flood damage? That takes its own policy.

## What You Can Rent in Red Oak: Apartments and Houses

Renters choose Red Oak to trade a longer drive for more room at lower rent than Dallas. Along I-35E, the newer apartments screen by the book with a posted income rule. The newer subdivisions hold whole streets of houses built to rent, the best fit for three bedrooms or a garage.

A middle tier of garden complexes offers a range of floor plans at lower prices. In the town's older housing, it's a person, not a policy, who makes the call on your application. That gives a messy credit or rental history the most room, usually for a larger deposit.

Red Oak ISD serves most addresses, but a few at the edges fall in another district. We check with the district for the exact street.

## What a week in Red Oak looks like

Red Oak is a small Ellis County city along I-35E. Most errands and dinners sit near the freeway exits, and Downtown Dallas is about half an hour north at rush hour.

### Red Oak on I-35E

I-35E is how almost everyone gets in and out of Red Oak. It's a free freeway, with no tolls, straight north into Dallas. By our drive times at 8am, Downtown Dallas is about 30 minutes away, the Medical District about 35, DFW Airport about 46 and Legacy West about 53. With clear roads, Downtown drops to about 25. We found no train or bus stop in town, so plan on a car for work and errands.

- **Interstate 35E** (freeway): Your free route north to Dallas; test the drive at 8am before you sign, since it's the one fast road out.

### City parks close to home

Watkins Park is the park at the center of town life, with a basketball court and room for the Founders Day crowd each fall. You'll find it roughly half a mile from Red Oak's center. Pearson Park, about a mile and a quarter away, is the quieter pick for a walk or tossing a ball. Both are a short drive from most homes off Ovilla Road and I-35E.

- **Watkins Park** (park): Shoot hoops after work or bring a blanket on Founders Day in September, when the parade and festival fill the park.
- **Pearson Park** (park): Go here when Watkins Park is busy; it's the calmer spot for a walk or tossing a ball around on a weekday evening.

### Cajun seafood and the freeway exits

Most of Red Oak's restaurants cluster near the I-35E exits and along Ovilla Road, so dinner is usually a five minute drive. Te'Jun The Texas Cajun is the big local name for Cajun seafood, roughly a mile from Red Oak's center. Chain spots for burgers, wings and coffee fill the rest of the exits. For a bigger night out, Dallas is about 25 minutes north with clear roads.

- **Te'Jun The Texas Cajun** (Cajun restaurant): Come hungry on a Friday night for Cajun seafood near the I-35E exits, without the drive into Dallas.

### Movies, Friday games and Founders Day

B&B Theatres Red Oak 12 is the movie theater in town, roughly 2 miles from Red Oak's center. In the fall, Red Oak ISD plays its home football games at Billy Goodloe Stadium. Founders Day comes each September at Watkins Park, with a morning parade and a festival after it.

- **B&B Theatres Red Oak 12** (movie theater): New releases on a hot afternoon or a wet weekend, with no drive into Dallas.
- **Billy Goodloe Stadium** (stadium): Go on a fall Friday night to watch Red Oak ISD football with the rest of town in the stands.

### Before you sign in Red Oak

If you'll drive to Dallas every day, test the trip at 8am before you sign. I-35E is the one fast road north, and a wreck on it leaves few good detours. Founders Day brings parade traffic to the streets around Watkins Park on a September Saturday morning, so set a move for the afternoon if you'll live close by.
