Red Bird and southwest Dallas spread along US-67 and I-20. Older garden complexes line Camp Wisdom, Westmoreland and Polk, and a few newer buildings sit near UNT Dallas and the rebuilt RedBird mall site. Floor plans run larger than in the urban core for less rent, and three bedrooms are common. Many complexes here approve a credit issue with a bigger deposit.

## Areas we cover inside Red Bird / Southwest Dallas
- **Redbird**: The area around Dallas Executive Airport and Red Bird Lane in southwest Dallas. Older garden apartments and 1960s and 70s houses fill the streets, and US-67 runs right through it.
- **Westmoreland Road**: Westmoreland runs north and south through southwest Dallas from I-30 down toward Camp Wisdom. Garden apartments and houses line it, and the Westmoreland DART station on the Red Line sits at the north end.
- **Kiest Park**: Kiest Park is one of the larger city parks in Oak Cliff, with wooded trails and ballfields. Houses fill the streets nearby, with some apartments along Kiest Boulevard.
- **Camp Wisdom**: Camp Wisdom Road runs east to west across southwest Dallas, past The Shops at RedBird near US-67. Older complexes and shopping strips sit along most of it.
- **Polk**: Polk Street runs north and south through Oak Cliff toward Camp Wisdom and the southern edge of Dallas. Older houses and small complexes sit along it.
- **UNT Dallas**: The University of North Texas at Dallas campus sits off University Hills Boulevard near I-20. The UNT Dallas DART station is the end of the Blue Line, and newer apartments have gone up nearby.
- **The Shops at RedBird**: The former Red Bird Mall at Camp Wisdom Road and US-67, now reworked into a mix of shopping, offices and medical clinics. Apartments and houses sit nearby, and I-20 is a short drive south.
## Red Bird Apartments With Three Bedrooms and Some Second Chances

## Blue Line Stations, US-67, and Commute Routes
The area is laid out along two roads: Camp Wisdom Road running east to west and Westmoreland Road running north to south. US-67, the Marvin D. Love Freeway, runs straight through toward I-35E and Downtown, and I-20 crosses the south end.
Rail touches two edges. Westmoreland station, at the north end, is the last stop on the Red Line. To the southeast, the Blue Line runs past VA Medical Center, Ledbetter and Camp Wisdom stations and ends at UNT Dallas station by the campus. Much of Red Bird sits a drive from both. Which one is closer to the home you like? We check that for each address.
Parking's easy: a space usually comes free with a garden unit here. What we ask about is how utilities are billed.
## Older Garden Complexes to New UNT Dallas Builds
Big garden complexes from decades back line Camp Wisdom, Westmoreland and Polk, with bigger floor plans than the same money buys closer in and plenty of three bedrooms. Newer buildings cluster near UNT Dallas and The Shops at RedBird, the old mall site now remade with stores, offices and medical clinics.
At many older complexes, water and gas come off one meter for the whole property, billed back to you as a set monthly amount. We ask for the typical monthly fee for your size of unit before we compare.
Along Camp Wisdom and Westmoreland, many managers approve credit issues, usually with a larger deposit and more paid up front. Some nearby complexes have income limits, and our lists stick to market rent buildings.
## Red Bird and southwest Dallas, day to day
Southwest Dallas is a spread out area of older neighborhoods along US-67 and I-20, with big parks, mountain bike trails and The Shops at RedBird. Plan on driving, with rail at the north and east edges.
### US-67, I-20 and the ends of two rail lines
US-67 runs straight through Red Bird to I-35E and Downtown Dallas, and I-20 crosses the south end. From the middle of Red Bird at 8am, we time Downtown Dallas at about 23 minutes, the Medical District at 29, DFW Airport at 35 and Legacy West at 50. For rail, Westmoreland Station at the north end is the last Red Line stop, and UNT Dallas Station ends the Blue Line to the southeast.
- **Westmoreland Station** (rail station): Start your ride at the end of the Red Line for a seat on the trip downtown.
- **UNT Dallas Station** (rail station): Board the Blue Line at its south end for a ride through Oak Cliff to downtown.
### Bike trails and big parks
Boulder Park, at US-67 and Red Bird Lane, has about 12 miles of mountain bike trail built with DORBA. Kiest Park, with wooded paths and ball fields, and the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve, with miles of trails, are short drives north. Twin Falls Park and Thurgood Marshall Park are the closer neighborhood parks for a walk.
- **Boulder Park** (park): Ride the dirt loops on a dry morning; the blue route skips the hardest parts.
- **Kiest Park** (park): Drive up for a longer walk under the trees, or a weekend game on the fields.
- **Twin Falls Park** (park): A nearby park for an easy evening walk without leaving the neighborhood.
### Breakfast, chicken and the RedBird strip
Most places to eat line Camp Wisdom Road and US-67 near The Shops at RedBird. Breakfast Brothers is the weekend brunch stop, Pollo Regio is the pick for grilled chicken, and Maskaras Mexican Grill covers a sit down Mexican dinner. Juicy Seafood & Bar and a run of chains fill in the rest. For more choice, Bishop Arts and Jefferson Boulevard are a short drive north.
- **Breakfast Brothers** (breakfast): Go early on Saturday for a big brunch plate before the wait builds.
- **Pollo Regio** (grilled chicken): Pick up grilled chicken to go for an easy dinner at home after work.
- **Maskaras Mexican Grill** (Mexican): Our choice for a Mexican dinner out with friends, close to home.
### Groceries and shopping centers
The Shops at RedBird, the old mall site where Camp Wisdom Road meets US-67, now mixes stores, clinics and offices. Fiesta Mart, Joe V's Smart Shop, ALDI and Cash Saver handle groceries within about 2.5 miles. Wheatland Towne Crossing, Square 67 and Redbird Oaks add more stores and quick meals.
- **The Shops at RedBird** (shopping center): Pair errands with a doctor visit or lunch at the old mall site, close to US-67.
- **Joe V's Smart Shop** (grocery): Stock up on low cost groceries for the week; weekday mornings are calmest.
- **Wheatland Towne Crossing** (shopping center): A one stop lot for a big weekend run of errands and a quick meal.
### Water park, airplanes and game day
Bahama Beach Waterpark, run by the City of Dallas, opens for the summer about a mile from the middle of Red Bird. The Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center sits at Dallas Executive Airport, a quick stop for anyone who likes planes. In the fall, Dallas ISD high school football fills the Sprague Athletic Complex on game nights.
- **Bahama Beach Waterpark** (water park): Plan a summer weekday at the city water park to beat the weekend lines.
- **Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center** (aviation museum): A small aviation center at Dallas Executive Airport; look at its visitor page first, since aircraft can be away at shows.
- **Sprague Athletic Complex** (stadium): Catch a fall Friday night high school game, and arrive early for parking.

Bahama Beach is open in summer only, so check the city's dates before you plan a day around it. If you'll ride the train, check whether a home is closer to Westmoreland or UNT Dallas Station, since much of Red Bird is a drive from both. US-67 is free and runs straight downtown, so time it at rush hour from the exact address.
