Rentals here are mostly houses built in the last decade, and Forney ISD serves the area. - **Gateway**: Gateway Parks is a planned subdivision in Forney with pools, parks and newer houses. Most rentals are houses, and US-80 is the main way toward Mesquite and Dallas. - **Downtown Forney**: The old downtown along the railroad, in a town the state legislature named the Antique Capital of Texas. Older houses sit on the nearby streets, and US-80 runs along the north side. - **US-80 Corridor**: US-80 is Forney's link west to Mesquite and I-635, and most of the newer apartments and shopping sit along it. At rush hour, westbound traffic backs up toward Mesquite. - **Mustang Creek**: An early 2000s subdivision in Forney ISD named for the creek that runs through south Forney. Houses here are older than the newer planned communities, and FM 741 is close by. ## Forney Apartments on US-80 and Streets of Rental Houses - The westbound US-80 run through Mesquite timed at 8am, when traffic is heavy - Mustang Creek floodplain status to check for the address before you pay a deposit - Devonshire and Gateway HOA fees to ask about, since some land on top of the advertised rent ## The Drive West on US-80, and Mustang Creek US-80 carries you west through Mesquite toward Dallas, about 20 miles. I-635 takes you north toward jobs in Richardson and Plano. Outside rush hour? It's an easy drive. At 8am on a weekday, traffic through Mesquite adds about 13 minutes to the Downtown trip by our drive times. There's no rail or usable bus, so you'll drive for every errand. Everyday shopping lines US-80, and Mesquite has the bigger stores. Mustang Creek runs from just east of town southwest toward Crandall. Flood risk changes by address, so ask before you sign. Standard renters insurance doesn't cover flood damage. ## Three Kinds of Rentals in Forney Newer garden communities line US-80 and cluster near Devonshire and Gateway, with written screening rules. The older rentals near Downtown Forney are the smallest group, and their owners have the most leeway. Daily life runs on that highway, with a new H-E-B, an old antique downtown and a city park with an amphitheater for summer shows. ### How long the drive takes from Forney At 8am, our times put Downtown Dallas about 47 minutes away, the Medical District 59, Legacy West 62 and DFW Airport 68. US-80 is the main road, and where it meets Gateway Boulevard is now the busiest corner in town, home to the new H-E-B. FM 548 and FM 741 carry most trips north and south through the city. - **US-80 Forney** (highway): The road for work and big errands; plan Dallas trips outside the 7am to 9am westbound rush when you can. ### The new H-E-B and old downtown shops The H-E-B at US-80 and Gateway Boulevard has curbside pickup and home delivery. For something different, the shops along Main Street in Downtown Forney carry on the town's antiques history. - **Downtown Forney** (shopping street): Browse the antique shops on Main Street on a Saturday, then grab lunch nearby. - **H-E-B Forney** (grocery): The big weekly grocery stop on US-80; shop early on weekdays or use curbside pickup on busy weekends. ### Festivals and summer shows Festival on Main brings food, music and art downtown each spring.
