# Far North Dallas Apartment Locator: Coit, Frankford and Four School Districts

Far North Dallas fills the stretch from LBJ up to the Bush Turnpike along the Tollway and Coit Road. Older garden complexes line Coit and Frankford, midrises sit near the Tollway, and townhomes with garages turn up along Frankford. An address here can land in Dallas, Plano, Richardson or Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, and a daily Tollway commute adds tolls on top of rent.

## Areas we cover in and around Far North Dallas

- **Bent Tree**: Bent Tree sits around Bent Tree Country Club west of the Dallas North Tollway, with Frankford Road and the George Bush Turnpike to the north. Homes and condos face winding streets and golf course lots, and apartment complexes cluster along the Tollway and Dallas Parkway.
- **Prestonwood**: Prestonwood is mostly 1970s and 1980s houses around Prestonwood Country Club, near Preston Road and Hillcrest. Apartments and condos sit on its edges along Belt Line, Arapaho and the Tollway, and the Addison restaurant row is just west.
- **Frankford Corridor**: Frankford Road runs east and west just south of the George Bush Turnpike. It's lined with garden apartment complexes from the 1980s and 1990s, plus newer ones near the Tollway. You can be on PGBT or the Tollway in a couple of minutes.
- **Coit Road**: Up here, Coit Road runs north from Belt Line past Arapaho, Campbell and Frankford into Plano, with strip centers at most big intersections. Plenty of older garden complexes sit along it, and US-75 is a short hop east.
- **Campbell Road**: Campbell Road heads east from the Tollway area across Preston and Coit toward Richardson and US-75. Neighborhood shopping centers and apartment complexes from the 1980s line much of it, with streets of houses just behind them.

## Far North Dallas Apartments Across Four School Districts

- The school district for each address, since four districts share this corridor
- Renovated and original units at the same complex, which rent at different prices, so ask which one you're quoted
- The A-train link at Trinity Mills when you need to reach Lewisville or Denton by rail
- Townhomes with a private garage on Frankford priced against an older garden unit

## Getting Around: the Tollway, the Silver Line and Tolls

Three main roads run north and south. The Dallas North Tollway cuts through the western half, south to North Dallas and Uptown and north to Legacy. Preston and Coit run parallel to the east, free but slower at rush hour. The Bush Turnpike crosses the top and LBJ marks the bottom.

Knoll Trail station, on the Silver Line near Arapaho and the Tollway, is the one rail stop inside the area. Trains run west to DFW Airport and east to Richardson and Plano. Two Green Line stops sit just west in Carrollton, and at Trinity Mills the Green Line meets DCTA's A-train, which heads north through Lewisville.

Tolls add up fast when you drive the Tollway and the Turnpike every day. Price your trip on [NTTA's toll calculator](https://www.ntta.org/toll-calculator), and compare each building's rent plus tolls before you choose.

## How Garden Units, Midrises and Townhomes Compare

Older garden complexes along Coit, Preston and Frankford make up most of the rentals. Many were updated in the past decade, so one complex often prices renovated and original units differently. Check small things too (does the gate open only by phone app?).

Midrises near the Tollway come with the usual list of fees, and many run specials. Ask two things: does the quote already include one, and what does month thirteen look like?

Townhomes along Frankford, most rented by their owners, come with a private garage, for a good bit more than a garden unit. If you've settled the school district and want the garage, the monthly difference is what decides it.

## A week in Far North Dallas

Far North Dallas is built around the car, with big roads, strip centers and quick runs up to Plano. A long paved trail and a string of city parks give it room to get outside.

### Far North Dallas by car, train and trail

Most trips here start on a big road. By our drive times, Legacy West is about 16 minutes away at any hour. At 8 a.m., Downtown is about 32 to 33 minutes, DFW Airport about 33 and the Medical District 28 to 31. The Silver Line's Knoll Trail Station runs trains west to DFW Airport and east toward Richardson and Plano. For a bike ride to work, the Preston Ridge Trail runs north and south through the area and links up with the Cottonwood Creek Trail at the Plano line.

- **Knoll Trail Station** (rail station): The Silver Line stop near Arapaho Road and the Tollway, with trains west to DFW Airport and east toward Richardson and Plano.

### Parks strung along a power line trail

The Preston Ridge Trail is a paved path that follows a power line corridor and ties together three city parks: Fretz Park, Salado Park and Campbell Green Park. Campbell Green, on Campbell Road at Hillcrest, has wide fields, shaded picnic spots and pickleball and basketball courts. At the north end, the trail meets the Cottonwood Creek Trail near Hillcrest Road and SH-190, so you can keep riding into Plano.

- **Preston Ridge Trail** (trail): A paved path under the power lines; ride it north into Plano on the Cottonwood Creek Trail.
- **Campbell Green Park** (park): Wide fields and shaded picnic spots on Campbell Road, plus pickleball and basketball courts right off the Preston Ridge Trail.

### Big box runs and the weekly shop

Prestonwood Town Center, on Belt Line Road west of Preston Road, is the main errand stop on the south side. It has big box stores and a ring of quick places to eat. The Market at Pepper Square sits a few blocks east, at Preston and Belt Line. Strip centers with grocery chains line Preston, Coit and Frankford, so the weekly shop is usually a short drive. For a mall day, Galleria Dallas is a short drive south on the Tollway.

- **Prestonwood Town Center** (shopping center): The stop on Belt Line Road for big box stores when you're setting up a new place.

## Far North Dallas questions

### Which school district is my Far North Dallas address in?

It could be Dallas, Plano, Richardson or Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, whatever the mailing address says, and neighbors on Coit can fall in different ones. Each district's address lookup gives the final answer.

### Can I reach Denton by train from Far North Dallas?

Yes. Ride the Green Line from Trinity Mills or North Carrollton/Frankford, just west in Carrollton, then switch at Trinity Mills, where DCTA's A-train runs on through Lewisville to Denton.

### Why does one complex show two prices?

Many older complexes on Coit and Frankford were partly renovated, and they rent updated and original units at different prices under one name. Ask which kind each quote covers. Across Far North Dallas, the typical one bedroom is $1,015 and the cheapest open one is $712, with free rent counted.

### Are there townhomes for rent in Far North Dallas?

Yes. Townhomes with private garages turn up along Frankford, most rented by their owners. They cost more than a garden apartment, so weigh the garage and space against the monthly difference.

### Is there an apartment locator for Far North Dallas?

Yes. We cover it from LBJ to the Bush Turnpike: garden complexes, Tollway midrises and the Frankford townhomes. We send the places that fit your budget. Check each address on the district's lookup before you apply, since the district has the final say.
